Grantchester is a riverside village, a mile or so outside of Cambridge city centre, which can be reached by river. After punting past the Cambridge University College backs, the river passes Newnham, an enchanting wooded part of the river, and then the Grantchester Meadows, a wonderful combination of grassland and trees.
Punting Cambridge and then Grantchester takes around three hours. We recommend that you stop in Grantchester for at least an hour before you make your return journey by punt.
Aside from the beautiful meadows, we suggest that you do a combination of the following; enjoy afternoon tea at the Orchard Tea Rooms, eat a pub lunch in either the Red Lion or the Green Man. Alternatively, you could sit out on the grass and enjoy a picnic, from where you can watch people swim and take to the rope swings. You can even dip your toes in yourself if you feel inclined! Granchester punting tour is a great choice.
Scholars Punting Cambridge charge for the entire day. This means that the return trip, a college backs tour and waiting in Grantchester are included in the price. The price for Granchester punting tour does vary depending on whether it is a weekend or a weekday. Prices start from around £400 at quieter times but could be in excess of £1000 at weekends. It’s best to call for a quote. Generally, we see a drop in trade after 5 pm, so evenings are cheaper.
