TripAdvisor Competition in Punting

March 22nd, 2018

A Rutherfords punt on the river

TripAdvisor was founded in 2000 as a place where people could rate restaurants using a star system. Since then, it has grown to include tourist attractions. In recent years it has become an essential resource for all punting businesses with an online presence; a good or bad ranking can make or break a punting company’s website. TripAdvisor is now so integral to punting that it features on the first page for most punting-related searches on Google.

Rutherford’s & Let’s Go Punting’s TripAdvisor Battle

Let’s Go Punting have a big focus on TripAdvisor and have achieved over 1500 reviews. They were number one on TripAdvisor for years and even printed leaflets boasting about their number one position. It was a huge surprise to everyone when Rutherford’s knocked them off the top spot earlier this month.

History of Rutherford’s and Lets Go Punting

In 2000, long before either of the websites were created, Simon Godfrey and Emma Wynne started punting together as husband and wife. They divorced in 2006. Simon Godfrey founded Let’s Go Punting and Emma is the founder of Rutherford’s. They featured as main characters in the documentary, Punt Wars, which highlighted the friction between the two of them.

Emma says that she is determined to maintain her lead on TripAdvisor and close the Gap between Rutherford’s and Lets Go Punting in Google rankings.

If you’ve booked a Cambridge punting tour with us, we’d love it if you could share a few kind words on our TripAdvisor page.
