Trinity Hall Cambridge

Trinity Hall is the smallest college on the Cambridge river tour and it only occupies one bank of the river. It is one of the oldest Cambridge Colleges and was founded in 1350 by William Bateman, Bishop if Norwich. Ten years earlier the Black death had wiped out almost half the population and the college was founded to assist with rebuilding an educational infrastructure. Originally it specialized in teaching Law, it’s possible that lawyers were susceptible to the black death because they visited the sick to create wills.

How it relates to Trinity College

Trinity College is next door to Trinity Hall and they are separate Colleges. To Begin with, the older Colleges were named Halls or Houses. During the middle ages most of the halls and Houses changed their names, however, Trinity Hall couldn’t because Henry the eighth had already founded Trinity College.

Alumni from the college

The most famous Alumni was probably the physicist Stephen Hawkins. In the film “A Theory of Everything” they showed him as attending St Johns College because the grounds and buildings were considered more picturesque. Other notable Alumni include the Australian prime minister Stanley Bruce and the Nobel prize winner David Thouless.

Buildings

The small college has a variety of different buildings. The Chapel dates back to 1350 when the college was founded. The Newest building is an extension to the Jerwood Library which was built in 1999.
